IMA Communications Internship

I had the opportunity to work for the IMA Financial Group, Inc. in Denver, Colorado from May - Aug. 2018 as a communications and public relations intern. Through this internship I was able to manage multiple projects by myself and with a team relating to external communications, internal communications, and event planning. Below are examples of work I completed for IMA.

Ping Pong on the Plaza

I was able to plan the IMA Foundation's annual charity tournament called Ping Pong on the Plaza in Sept. which raised over $130,000 for Denver area nonprofits. For this event, I was in charge of coordinating and securing vendors, creating internal and external email marketing campaigns, developing a social media strategy and content, and lastly engaging community sponsors in the area. Below are some examples of the work I did for Ping Pong and for the execution of the event.

External and Internal Email Campaigns

To the left is one of nine external emails I wrote, edited and designed. These emails were targeted to a specific list created from different events - these ranged from sponsors to individual teams.

To the right is one of four internal emails designed for our young professional (YP) audience. We targeted our YP and then non-YP audience in different emails so we could effectively get employees to buy tickets or volunteer to help at the event.

Social Media Strategy and Content

Here is a sample of the three-month social media plan I created for the event. Each post was tailored to the different audiences on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram. Previously, Instagram had not been utilized, so I had the opportunity to re-vamp it and create a following, especially tailored to young professionals we were trying to reach for Ping Pong. At the event, I ran the live social media feeds.

Instagram Statistics:

July 6, 2018: 6 followers

August 15, 2018: 110 followers

In just over a month, follower count and reach increased exponentially.

Community Reach

To spur community involvement, a graphic designer built this poster to the left out and I was able to go around to local businesses seeking in-kind donations and sponsorships.

Below is an example of copy I wrote and posted on community event calendars on local websites, Denver based company websites and nonprofit event calendars.

Award Nominations

I wrote and edited several award nominations for different professionals at IMA. This included a piece I wrote and submitted about our Dallas president for the D CEO Magazine's Nonprofit and Corporate Citizenship Awards. He was selected as a finalist for the Leadership Excellence Award and in August was selected as the honoree. Below is the submission I wrote.

I edited weekly blogs written by risk-control professionals and formatted them in WordPress and also scheduled social media posts for the blogs.

Internal Email Campaigns

Internal email marketing was a very important tool at IMA, and I constantly helped the communications team with editing and building out emails in MailChimp to send out.
